Naming Ceremony

September 1st 2013 was a big day in Jacob’s life.  80 of his family and friends met in a local hall to celebrate his Naming Day.  Jacob’s Nana made a beautiful Afternoon Tea and guests arrived from as far away as the other end of the country.   There were friends on hand to organise every guest to fill in the Wish Bunting – “I promise to show Jacob how to change a plug”  up to “I promise to take Jacob to the Seychelles”.  All the children put their hand prints on the Tree of Life, and this will go into Jacob’s Memory Box with the Bunting for the future.

Jacob’s Mum, Megan wrote:

We were so pleased to have Sarah as the Celebrant for our son’s Naming Day.  Sarah was friendly and professional all the way through, helping us to understand the role of a celebrant, develop our plans for the Naming Day and gave us lots of useful ideas for us to work with.  We were able to make the day really personal and just as we wanted.

Sarah was also our Knight in Shining Armour and saved the day when our helium balloons went flat on the morning of the ceremony.  Sarah rushed out to buy us some more, even though it was a Sunday, so that we could end the ceremony just as we planned.

I couldn’t recommend Sarah highly enough as a Celebrant, she made our special day really special!”

Flower Seeds

I am so pleased when I receive Thank you Cards from families so I know that I have done even a small amount to ease their suffering. It is also important that the family receive a copy of the ceremony for them to keep and look over whenever they wish.  I received cards from three families recently and have them displayed on my table at home.

I just wanted to say an official thank you for taking the time to meet my Mum, my niece, and myself, and also for the wonderful service you gave in memory of my sister.

Your words were beautiful and comforting, and it is nice to reflect back and read what you said.

Although I thanked you at the service, I just wanted to take the time now, as you took such great care of us before the day, and on the  morning that I felt I needed to thank you again for all you have done.”

I have started to give families bookmarks containing paper hearts of wildflower seeds so that they can plant the seeds and year after year flowers grow in memory of their loved one.

Renewal of Vows

What a memorable day!

Katie and James asked me to create a ceremony for their renewal of vows as they had been married for 5 years. We celebrated on the beach on Bank Holiday Monday – such beautiful weather. Katie and James then led the way out to the arch in kayaks to release paper boats containing all the wishes from their guests. Once the sea had absorbed all the boats – the wishes would come true. After a BBQ on the beach we watched the sun set. Memories are made of this……….

Katie sent me a thank you card:

Thank you for everything you did to make our renewal of vows ceremony so special.  It was one of the best days in our lives.

My husband Andy took photos and video of the ceremony and I will be adding a slideshow for you all to watch their special day so watch this space……

Afternoon Tea

23rd August 2013

My first funeral last week at the East Devon Crematorium up near Whimple.  A beautiful place, light and airy with great views over the countryside.  I received a Thank you card today:

On behalf of our family, thank you for acting as Celebrant at Mum’s funeral.  We felt completely confident with your presence and delighted at the content – I know we derived it together but we were not thinking clearly enough to deliver the result with the style and sensitivity and confidence you exuded.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity – I love meeting with families and creating a ceremony so personal to them.

Afternoon Tea for everyone.

Renewal of Vows

Bill and Elaine – 35 years. A memorable day in a beautiful garden. Congratulations!

What a beautiful day at Bill and Elaine’s garden recently for their 35th Wedding Anniversary – Renewal of Vows.  They invited all their close friends and family and Elaine made a delicious buffet including my favourite……cake pops!  The sun shone, the music soared and the balloons flew.  I had put wildflowers into the balloons so that where ever they fell, flowers would grow year after year.  Their children read such heartfelt poems and we all toasted them with glasses of champagne.

Perfect day for such a lovely couple.

Thank you Card – Butterflies

I have received a beautiful Thank you Card covered in butterflies from a family whose loved ones funeral was a couple of weeks ago.

“I would like to express our sincere gratitude for all your help in carrying out her funeral……so many friends and family have said it was a lovely service and just like her!…..I know that we could not have achieved this without your patience and guidance.  We relied on your sensitive nature and kindness and we were rewarded with your lovely interpretation of our words and poems.  Thank you so much it would have been too difficult without you.”

It was a pleasure to be part of this service and thank you for your words.
