RENEWAL OF VOWS 2017

Every year I feel privileged to write and conduct the Renewal of vows for Naomi and Graham founders of http://www.weddingwishingwell.org.uk/default.html

In 2017, we flew to Venice for Naomi and Graham’s 5th Wedding Anniversary.

They celebrated their love with a Daisy Ceremony, a small flower with a large meaning, depicting innocence, loyal love, purity, love that conquers all, beauty and simplicity.  As we stood in St Marks Square, they read poems to each other and made their vows to each other again.  As the future for this special couple is not secure, every word of love is so important.  Their son Devon signed their certificate and the gathered audience cheered.

Adventures of a Celebrant in Venice – Part 9

As well as being filled with people and great architecture, Piazza San Marco is also full of pigeons. Feeding these birds is banned but they flocked to our couple with hope and it made a great photoshoot for Tara

Through Naomi and Grahams work with their charity, Wedding Wishing Well Foundation, a friend asked them to search for a padlock she and her husband had attached to one of the bridges.  It is such a romantic gesture and represents the couple’s committed love.  After identifying the Rialto Bridge from the photos, we eventually found the padlock and Naomi and Graham attached one of their own.  It was a very moving moment as their friends were remembered with love.

As evening fell, I performed the Toast in a cosy restaurant which was a fitting end to a wonderful day.  I was delighted to capture their unique love and marriage in these personalised words.

“Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.

So let’s raise our glasses in a toast to the strong and courageous Graham and Naomi.”

The next morning we ended our Venice celebrations with a romantic Water Taxi ride back to the airport and home again whilst reflecting on the special events we were privileged to be a part of.

I am so glad I got to know Naomi, Graham, Devon, Tara and Tracy and I look forward to writing and performing ceremonies, drinking Bellinis, eating pasta, sailing in gondolas, sharing breakfast and having many laughs with them in the future.

Daisies are the flowers that symbolise a Fifth Anniversary, a small flower with a large meaning, depicting innocence, loyal love, purity, love that conquers all, beauty and simplicity.

I guided our couple to exchange the daisies.  In so doing, their gift to each other is the gift of love.

As a close and loving family, Graham and Naomi chose their son, Devon, to be their witness and to sign the certificate of this ceremony, which he did with great seriousness and gravity.

After saying the Closing Words, I ended with a beautiful poem just perfect for their marriage:

Once in a lifetime

Once in a lifetime you find someone

Who touches not only your heat, but also your soul.

Once in a lifetime you discover someone who stands beside you, not over you.

You find someone who loves you for who you are, and not for who you could be.

Once in a lifetime, you find someone…

As you have found each other

Anon

Graham then kissed his beautiful wife!

After the cheers and applause, our audience drifted away and we continued to celebrate with hugs all round.

We all had tears in our eyes as Graham read his chosen poem to Naomi, his wife of five years.

I Knew I Had Been Touched By Love

I knew I had been touched by love the first time I

Saw you, and I felt your warmth and I heard your

Laughter.

I knew that I had been touched by love when I was

Hurting from something that happened, and you came

Along and made that hurt go away.

I knew that I had been touched by love when I

Stopped making plans with my friends and started

Dreaming dreams with you……………………….

Adventures of a Celebrant in Venice – Part 6

By this time Naomi and Graham were in their own personal bubble and the world was just their own.  I loved my special role of being their ring bearer and watched as Naomi and Graham exchanged their rings and made their vows to each other

The rings you gave each other years ago are a symbol of the promises which you made.  As an endless circle of precious metal, as you each now re-affirm the giving of a ring, may it symbolise that your love for each other will be precious and never ending.

As you celebrate five years of marriage, I ask you Graham, if you renew your promise to love Naomi, to cherish and respect her, comfort and encourage her, and be faithful to her till the end of your days?

Graham: I do

I ask you Naomi, if you renew your promise to love Graham, to cherish and respect him, comfort and encourage him, and be faithful to him till the end of your days?
