Matt and Pip’s Wedding

With it’s rich history, effortless charm and elegance, Bovey Castle in Devon was the perfect venue for Matt and Pip’s Wedding Ceremony.  After welcoming everyone to the Cathedral Room, both mothers, Linda and Sabine, came forward  to light their son’s candles, representing the love and support of their families.

I then invited Matt and Pip to take their candles and light the centre candle to represent the coming together of two lives to become a relationship that strengthens the individual through love, honour and respect.

After exchanging their rings, I described their Hand Fasting cord and why it was so important to them both.  The hand fasting cord was made of three strands;

White for wholeness, completion and inspiration, Blue for calmness, understanding and patience and Orange for good fortune, success and prosperity

Pip and Matt saw these as the qualities and elements that they invited into their relationship and affirmations for their marriage.

As I wrapped the ribbon around their hands, Matt’s sister Emma-Louise, tied the cords together and said a Binding Prayer:

Upon this day, your hands I bind,

A symbol of your hearts entwined.

To witness this, I ask of thee,

Your union forever blessed be.

After Matt and Pip had said their own heartfelt Vows to each other we listened to music played by the Harpist Elizabeth-Jane Baldry

I closed the ceremony with the Blessing:

May the blessing of each of us be felt by you.

Go now to walk the ways of the world together, and may your days be good and long upon the earth.

Pip and Matt sent me these wonderful words:

We will be forever grateful for the positive energy you brought to our day and in such a talented way! Thank you so much!
The beautiful photographs were taken by the Bristol Photographer Paul Roland Williams who captured their love and happiness.

Renewal of Vows – Candle Ceremony

With your Renewal of Vows, the lamp of your love has been formally lit.  Keep it warm and bright with mutual concern.  Replenish the source of its light with daily care, with gentleness and respect.  Take it with you your lives ahead.  Do not let it flicker or grow dim through they coming years.  Nurture it, foster it, rejoice in it. Make it a truly creative source, not only for yourselves, but for everyone around you.

Associate of the Guild of Cornish Celebrants

The Guild of Cornish Celebrants has been set up by Denise and Nicola to promote quality celebratory ceremonies which fully reflect the wishes and beliefs of the couples and families they work with. The aim of The Guild is to give an assurance of excellence – they are passionate about providing bespoke and unique ceremonies for any occasion. The hallmarks of a mediaeval ‘Guild’ were their professional ability and demonstrated accomplishment; they are redefining the ‘Guild’ concept for the 21st century, bringing a traditional quality standard to a new contemporary offering, ensuring ceremonies from the Guild always meet or exceed our clients’ expectations.

After a very successful meeting with Nicola and Denise from the Guild of Cornish Celebrants, I am pleased to announce that I am now an Associate of the Guild performing ceremonies in Devon for them.  I will continue to help you create and then conduct your unique and individual Ceremony where ever and whenever you wish.  I believe that your Ceremony is at the very heart of your day.

Together we will create meaningful memories, which will bind you closer and give joy to all the special people on your special day.

Wedding Ceremonies

Choosing a celebrant to deliver your wedding ceremony gives you a whole range of options that a registrar just can’t.  So….you can have your ceremony anywhere, not just licensed venues.  I have performed ceremonies in couples’ favourite places; beaches, woods, their own gardens, hotels, on boats, cliff tops.  I often recommend Middle Coombe Farm, Tiverton; The Barn, South Milton; Putsborough Beach in North Devon and Bovey Castle, Dartmoor.

Your ceremony can include: walking down an aisle, giving and blessing of rings, exchanging of vows, lighting of candles, poetry, even religious or spiritual words. Symbolic Rituals to unite you could include Rose Ceremony, Sand Ceremony, Hand Fasting and Jumping the Broom, often couples choose all of these!  I have even written Cocktail Rituals and Chocolate Ceremonies to make the wedding as personal and unique as you are.  Part of the fun is choosing which ones suit you the best!

Ceremonies and Children

When you decide to celebrate your love in a Wedding Ceremony or Renewal of Vows, include your children as they are such a big part of you both.  They can be Ring Bearers, place flowers in a vase, light a candle, join in a Sand Ceremony and Hand Fasting ceremony and, of course hand out the chocolates for the Chocolate Ritual!  They will remember your day for the rest of their lives.

Castle Wedding

Joyce and Jiapeng chose the beautiful Bovey Castle Hotel in Devon for their wedding ceremony.  Their families came all the way from China and, on one of the hottest days of the year, they witnessed the love between the couple and their gorgeous daughter Emma.

To unite their families I performed a Candle Ceremony.  I invited both mothers to come forward to light two candles representing the love and support of their families.  I then invited Jiapeng and Joyce to take the candles and light the centre candle.  As the one light cannot be divided so they would be united from this day forth and go forward into a shining lifetime together.

Joyce and her mother made the Hand Fasting cord together and all the guests placed pink roses, a symbol of grace, joy, admiration and happiness, in the vase along with all of their hopes, best wishes and love for them both.

From this day forward,

You shall not walk alone.

My heart will be your shelter,

And my arms will be your home.

Jiapeng and Joyce sent me their photographs with a lovely note:

Jiapeng and I would like to thank you very much Sarah. You have been very helpful since our first phone call and meeting. You used your experience to help plan the whole wedding ceremony. It was a perfect day and everyone enjoyed it so much!
